Our Investment Thesis
The rapid commercialization of generative artificial intelligence has created a structural shift in computing demand, favoring purpose-built infrastructure over general-purpose hardware. While Nvidia has captured the first wave of this transition, its GPU-centric architecture is increasingly constrained by cost, power consumption, and latency for large-scale inference. We invested in Groq because it is one of the few companies architected from the ground up to address this next phase of AI deployment.
Groq’s Language Processing Units (LPUs) are specifically optimized for deterministic, low-latency execution of generative models, enabling materially better performance per dollar and per watt than traditional GPUs for inference workloads. This specialization provides Groq with a clear technological moat in a market that is shifting from model training toward real-time, high-volume model serving.
The company is led by proven technical founders, has validated demand through partnerships with leading AI platforms, and is rapidly scaling deployment. Importantly, Groq operates in a market that is expanding by orders of magnitude, as enterprises embed AI into core products and workflows.
At a valuation that remains modest relative to its technical differentiation and market opportunity, Groq offers asymmetric upside. We believe it is well positioned to become a foundational infrastructure provider in the next era of AI computing.
